About the treatment

LED Therapy is the therapeutic use of light to modulate cellular function to improve and quicken wound healing, treat acne, rejuvenate the appearance of skin, improve local circulation, perform 5-ALA photodynamic therapy (PDT), and relieve pain and stiffness in muscles and joints.

The skin has three layers: the epidermis is the most superficial layer, the dermis is the middle layer and the hypodermis is the deepest layer. The PDT Light therapy can penetrate all three layers for specific results. PDT Light Therapy works by emitting specific wavelengths of light that interact with your skin cells. Depending on the colour and wavelength, the light can kill acne-causing bacteria, reduce inflammation, stimulate collagen production, or improve blood circulation, leading to healthier, rejuvenated skin.

PDT Light Therapy

Purple Light (400-420nm – Epidermis):
Promotes detoxification, reduces inflammation, enhances healing, and boosts blood circulation.

Blue Light (430-450nm – Epidermis):
Decreases sebaceous gland activity, effectively treats acne vulgaris, clears congestion, and eliminates acne-causing bacteria.

Cyan Light (500-520nm – Dermis):
Soothes irritated skin and helps reduce the appearance of visible capillaries on the skin’s surface.

Yellow Light (570-600nm – Dermis):
Stimulates collagen production, aids in wound healing, and supports the skin’s natural recovery process. Ideal for rosacea and post-laser treatment care.

Orange Light (590-630nm – Dermis):
Revitalises skin tone and diminishes dullness, enhancing overall complexion.

White Light (400-700nm – Hypodermis):
Accelerates tissue metabolism, reduces the appearance of fine lines, and combats skin sagging, promoting rapid cell turnover.

Red Light (630-700nm – Hypodermis):
Improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow, stimulating cell turnover for a more youthful and radiant complexion.

Frequently asked questions

The light is placed over the skin with no contact and is illuminated for a period of 15-30 minutes. This allows absorption of photons (light particles) into the target cellular components, resulting in the production of new cellular energy. The response of the inflammatory-stage cells is enhanced, and small proteins are released which support the growth, survival and differentiation of new cells.

The number of sessions required varies depending on your specific skin concerns and desired outcomes. A typical treatment plan may include multiple sessions over several weeks. Your clinician will tailor a treatment plan based on your individual needs.

Results from PDT Light Therapy can vary, but many patients notice improvements in their skin’s texture and appearance after just a few sessions. For optimal results, a full treatment course is recommended.
